Stress and Anxiety
No matter your age, stress is something that is shared by all of us. By learning tactics to cope with stress and anxiety and breaking the stigma surrounding going to therapy, we can help ourselves and each other manage these normal emotions. Change your perspective on stress, and engage in activities such as mindfulness and gratitude to better your own mental health. The key thing to remember is to relay these tactics to members of your community and help others learn how to cope with stress.
Eating Disorder Awareness
Regardless of your shape, age, economic or social background, eating disorders are a pervasive mental health issue that can pose extreme dangers. As someone who is currently in recovery, I can recognize the impact that my ED had on my family, friends, and all my relationships. Most of this stems from the stigma surrounding EDs and therapy. So let's break the stigma!
Gun Violence
In all seriousness, I think frequently about how much my life could change if someone were to unexpectedly die. I think frequently, "what if someone just came into my school with a gun?" Amidst these thoughts, I cannot begin to fathom the anguish in the lives of families and friends when one of their family members' life has been stolen from them due to gun violence. In coordinance with my leadership on SDA (Students Demand Action), we posted infographics and had orange advocacy days to spread awareness and stop this endemic.
LGBTQ+
Happy Pride Month! In coordinance with my leadership position in GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance), let’s discuss and spread awareness about the egregious and unjust statistics surrounding lgbtq+ individuals and mental health. These stats are mainly due to the discrimination that the community faces in our society and it is up to us to stop this outright harmful atmosphere.
Mental Illnesses
In addition to Mental Health Awareness Month, we educate our audience about mental illnesses. By continuing our advocacy year round, we seek to end the stigma surrounding mental health, mental illnesses, and receiving treatment or therapy. Educating others is the first and biggest step
Sexual Assault Awareness
Our April Advocacy Month couples both Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness month. Becoming more aware is the first step in eradicating these social issues through advocacy. We seek to dispel the myths, illuminate the facts and hope to make a difference in this heartbreaking global issue
